Did you know that Detroit is a mecca for pizza? That's right, Detroit is the home to the square pizza. Nobody does the Detroit pizza better than Buddy's. Their crust is one of the best anywhere, and their pizza is fun to eat with a group since the inside (non-edge) slices are light and have a little bit of a crunch. But you will have to fight your friends for the pizza slices at the four corners of the pan! The slight blackening of the crust along with the carmelizing flavor makes these slices the filet mignon of the Buddy's square pizza.

Buddy's has been around since 1936 and claim that they are the introducer of the "Detroit's Square Pizza". There are several location of Buddy's in the Detroit metro area, stop by and enjoy one of their pizzas, meet some locals, and see all of those who travel from out of town to experience Buddy's Square Pizza.

Having grown up in New York I wasn't too sure about the entire deep-dish or stuffed pizza concepts. To a New Yorker it seems alien. However, I decided to go to college in Chicago and quite honestly that is tough place to find a New York style pizza!

By my sophmore year I was a stuffed pizza addict, and my pizzeria of choosing was Bacino's in Lincoln Park. There was aways a wait, but while waiting you could watch the creation of the stuffed pizzas in the open kitchen. We preferred eating upstairs, but we would settle for the basement seating (no windows, not as good people watching).

Like all college students we went out in groups and as a result we were able to order a pretty wide variety of different pizzas with traditional toppings or, in this case stuffings, including pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, veggies and more.

the Home Run Inn is a very famous Chicago pizza restaurant. Founded in 1923 the Home Run Inn didn't develop it's pizza recipe until 1947 when a man and his mother-in-law teamed up to create the pizza and recipe that is still used to this day.

Home Run Inn's frozen pizza remains true to the original recipe with a great crust, zesty tomato sauce and a ton of cheese and toppings. Home Run Inn pizza is all natural and contains on trans fats. Unlike most frozen pizza the Home Run pizza retains it's restaurant crust taste and texture.

When entering Crostatas for the first time you will certainly notice the wood burning oven. It has clearly been finally crafted with old world Italian artisianship. Even better, it delivers a great pizza.

Crostatas is located in the Cleveland suburb of Highland Hts., in a pretty non-business intersection of town. They are located in a very attractive stand alone building with another restaurant across the street, but not much else of a commercial nature very close by.

We chose the Margherita pizza, always believing that our first visit should include the most basic (and our favorite) pizza. The pizzas at Crostatas are done in the Neopolitan thin crust style, and indeed, their thin crust was outstanding, chewy, tasty with just the right amount of charring. They say that New York pizza crust is so great because of New York water. In the case of Crostatas there is clearly nothing wrong with Ohio water.
